Max’s mouth went dry and his legs felt wobbly. He looked around at his friends and saw they were all wearing the same terrified expressions. Even Sherlock looked afraid. The little dog’s ears had folded back, and he crouched down low in the seat beside Charlie. Max wondered if there was still time to start the boat and get away, but one look at Joe told him it was impossible.
